Wednesday, 10 May 2017: HCF, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, congratulates the Federal Government for the significant investment in chronic disease prevention announced in the Federal Budget handed down last night. Committing $10million in Federal funding to The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre (TAPPC), the Government is investing in the long-term health of Australians, through initiatives which will reduce the impact of often preventable disease.

HCF, through the HCF Research Foundation, is TAPPC’s major corporate funder, having committed to invest $1.25million over a five year period, from 2013 to 2018. With a focus on disease prevention, HCF recognised the value to its members, and all Australians, of the important work being done by TAPPC.

John Barrington, Acting Managing Director, HCF praised the Government for the commitment to preventive health funding: “We welcome the announcement in tonight’s Federal Budget that will see much needed funds going into supporting research into the prevention of chronic disease and initiatives which will empower Australians to make healthier lifestyle choices. We have long recognised the benefit of prevention in health care and it is encouraging to see the new Health Minister, Greg Hunt, also understands the importance of tackling the burden of chronic disease.

“We look forward to seeing the broader impact TAPPC can now have on the health of Australians and the continued knowledge and initiatives in preventive health care which this funding will enable. We are also looking forward to working in partnership with Mr Hunt to improve the health care system in Australia.”
