You’ll be taken to the operating theatre or procedure room and made comfortable.
Your anaesthetist will insert an intravenous cannula into a vein to give you the anaesthetic or a sedative drug. You’ll most likely be positioned on your back with your head slightly raised.
The surgery is usually performed using a nasal endoscope, which is a small tube with a camera and light on the tip. You surgeon views the inside of your nose on a monitor.
After removing the polyps with a microdebrider, some surgeons then pack cotton gauze or a dissolvable material into your nostril to reduce the risk of bleeding.
This surgery usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how complex it is.
