You’ll be taken to the operating theatre or procedure room and made comfortable.
If you’re having a general anaesthetic or sedation, your anaesthetist will insert an intravenous cannula into a vein. You’ll probably be positioned on your back with your head slightly raised.
The surgery is usually performed using a nasal endoscope, which is a small tube with a camera and light on the tip. You surgeon views your nasal turbinates on a monitor.
Your turbinates will be reduced in size using one of several methods which your surgeon will have discussed with you previously. Learn more about types of nasal turbinate surgery.
Some surgeons then pack cotton gauze or a dissolvable material into the nostril/s to reduce the risk of bleeding.
This surgery usually takes around 30 minutes.
