Your dentist will be able to recommend and refer you to a suitably skilled dentist or OMFS. In some circumstances your own general dentist may perform the procedure.
You may be happy to accept the advice of your dentist about choosing an oral surgeon. Or you may like to investigate your choices: either option is safe and valid.
In Australia, each medical specialty has a governing body to which the consultants belong. You can access the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
Questions for your specialist may help you to understand your treatment, and, if necessary, decide on a dentist/surgeon. Practical issues you may also like to consider are which hospital(s) they operate from and what their fees are.
