You’ll be taken to the recovery area.
You shouldn’t have much pain following the procedure, but you may experience some discomfort similar to period cramps.
Occasionally women who’ve had D&C with local anaesthetic, may experience feelings of faintness afterwards. It’s caused by a temporary drop in blood pressure due to a vagus nerve stimulation. If this happens, you should feel fine after lying down for a while.
Some vaginal bleeding is also quite common.
If you’ve had a general anaesthesia, you may experience nausea, vomiting and/or a sore throat. You’ll have to wait until any anaesthetic or sedation has worn off before you can go home and you’ll need someone to take you home, as you’ll be unable to drive.
If you haven’t had anaesthesia or sedation, and you’re feeling OK, you’ll probably be allowed to go home after a short rest.
