Answers to commonly asked questions to help you make the right choice.

Many people don't know that Medicare doesn't cover you for ambulance costs. And ambulances can be expensive, especially if you live in a rural or remote area. HCF Ambulance Only insurance covers the cost of emergency ambulance services provided by State government services if you need to go to hospital or for on-the-spot treatment in Australia.

If you have ambulance only cover with HCF, you’ll be covered for unlimited air, land or sea emergency ambulance trips across Australia from the following service providers:

HCF Ambulance Only cover also includes non-emergency ambulance services provided by State government providers. This is payable if your doctor requests ambulance transport to a hospital because your medical condition requires a level of medical monitoring and support in transit that only an ambulance service can provide (up to $5,000 per person per calendar year). It doesn’t cover ambulance transport from another hospital or medical facility, including in an emergency.

A 24-hour waiting period applies for emergency ambulance services and a 2 month waiting period for non-emergency ambulance transport.

Whether you need ambulance cover or not will depend on the state you normally live in.
