Physiotherapy (also known as physical therapy or physio) can help ease pain, improve movement, and enhance muscle condition. It helps repair damage, reduce stiffness and increase mobility, and improve the quality of life of people with a wide range of health conditions, like arthritis, chronic back or knee pain, and sports injuries.

Physiotherapy is versatile, covering everything from health promotion and injury prevention to rehabilitation and post-operative care. Treatments can vary depending on your health condition but may involve hands-on techniques like massage and heat treatment, or tailored exercise programs.

Physiotherapy is generally not covered by Medicare unless it’s part of a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) provided by your GP — and this is limited to 5 sessions per calendar year. 

However, with HCF extras cover, you can get 100% back* on your first physio visit and lower out-of-pocket costs through our network of participating providers until you’ve reached your benefits limit.

With HCF extras, the number of covered physio visits depends on your level of cover and annual limits. While members on selected extras cover receive up to 100% back* on their first visit through our No-Gap network of participating providers, following visits are covered up to a specified amount until you’ve reached your annual limit. This annual limit is the maximum you can claim for extras, like physio, dental, chiro, remedial massage and more, and may include service limits on the number of claims you can make a year. 

Higher levels of cover, like HCF Top Extras, give you greater amounts back per visit and higher limits on services - so you can visit the physio regularly and get more of the cost back across a calendar year.
