Tests and imaging
Before surgery you’ll need to have some tests including blood and urine tests
Your doctor will normally send you to have some imaging to confirm the diagnosis. Imaging can include an X-ray and either an ultrasound or an MRI. The X-ray shows the bones of the shoulder. The ultrasound or MRI shows the state of the damaged tendons.
If any issues are raised by your tests and imaging, your surgeon may have to postpone or cancel your surgery.
Stopping smoking
Smoking slows wound healing after shoulder surgery. This could be a good opportunity to quit completely.
Medications
Your surgeon may ask you to stop taking certain medications (especially blood thinners) before your surgery. If you smoke or drink alcohol, ask your surgeon whether you should abstain from these before your surgery.
Don’t forget to mention any complementary or herbal remedies you’re taking.
